Bellagio

Bellagio, often referred to as the “Pearl of Lake Como,” is a dreamlike town with cobbled streets, charming boutiques, and sweeping lake views. I spent hours wandering its narrow alleys, soaking up the vibrant atmosphere, and visiting these spots:
- Villa Melzi – The beautiful lakeside villa with its lush gardens is a must-see in Bellagio. I enjoyed a peaceful walk through its well-maintained grounds, offering panoramic views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. Don’t miss this spot, especially for a serene escape from the town’s busy streets.
- Piazza San Giacomo – A quaint square surrounded by cafes and shops, perfect for a coffee break. From here, you can admire the gorgeous historic buildings and soak in the laid-back vibe of Bellagio. It’s one of the best places to people-watch.
- Borgo Antico – The charming, medieval part of Bellagio with its cobbled streets and colorful buildings. This area felt like stepping back in time, and I loved getting lost in its labyrinthine streets. It’s the perfect place for photos!
Varenna

Varenna is another must-visit town on Lake Como. With its picturesque streets and stunning lake views, it has everything you could want from a lakeside village. I spent a few hours here exploring these spots:
- Villa Monastero – This villa is a highlight in Varenna. The combination of beautiful botanical gardens and the historical villa overlooking the lake makes it a top attraction. I wandered through the gardens, taking in the views of the lake with the Alps in the background. (Pictures above)
- Castello di Vezio – Just a short hike up from the town, this medieval castle offers breathtaking views of Lake Como. I loved the hike, and the panoramic view from the top was worth every step. It’s a great spot to learn about the area’s history.
- Piazza San Giorgio – This lovely square is surrounded by cafes and restaurants, perfect for enjoying a meal or a drink while overlooking the lake. It’s also where you’ll find the stunning Church of San Giorgio.
Bellano

Bellano, less touristy but equally beautiful, offers a glimpse into authentic Italian lakeside life. Here are my favorite spots in Bellano:
- Orrido di Bellano – This gorge is a hidden gem, with a fascinating path that leads you through the ravine. I was amazed by the rushing water and dramatic rock formations. A must-see for nature lovers!
- Chiesa di San Nicolò – This 14th-century church is a quiet and peaceful place to visit. Its simple yet beautiful architecture made it a lovely stop during my walk through Bellano.
- Piazza Vittorio Emanuele – This charming square is the heart of Bellano, where you can relax and enjoy the local atmosphere. It’s surrounded by cafes, making it a perfect spot to people-watch.
Menaggio
Menaggio is a wonderful lakeside town with plenty to offer visitors. I spent a peaceful afternoon here and visited the following spots:
- Villa Vigoni – This historical villa with its stunning gardens and views of Lake Como is one of Menaggio’s top attractions. The villa is peaceful and the perfect place to enjoy the scenery.
- Menaggio Waterfront – I walked along the scenic lakeside promenade, taking in the views and the beauty of the lake. It’s a great spot to catch the ferry to other towns or just relax by the water.
- Piazza Garibaldi – This lively square in the town center is full of cafes, restaurants, and shops. It’s a great place to stop for a meal or a drink after exploring Menaggio.

Ferries are a convenient way to travel around Lake Como, with regular services between Bellagio, Varenna, Menaggio, and other lakeside towns. You can buy tickets directly at the ferry stations in Bellagio, which is especially easy since they have a ticket counter. In summer, ferries come frequently, with one typically departing every 30 minutes, making it effortless to hop over to Varenna in just about 30 minutes.
